This reverts commit 20096b32a788613ccd51567df935d8b710c14351.

Reverting https://github.com/sourcegraph/sourcegraph/commit/05254552530d69d8419f46f5ae164ff7d5a6d3a0 fixes the http.Client.Transport is not an *http.Transport issue.

After the revert, our e2e tests seem to be able to sporadically pass. This smells like a race condition to me. @sourcegraph/web Could you take a look and see if the tolerances need to be improved for the tests?
