Perform controlled clean up of child processes for structural search

When search calls comby and comby fires off child processes, those child processes need to receive a kill signal or similar when context times out. Some progress in this direction was made in #7177 #7162, but there isn't a clean and robust solution yet. This issue tracks alternatives for implementing a satisfying solution.
