Research language usage among customers and projects

We currently do not have a broad view of which primary languages are used by our customer base and overall user base, and this makes it difficult for the team to prioritize the work required to build & ship LSIF indexers with consideration to overall impact. Once we have this information we will be able to confidently plan support for precise code intel that can unblock the most users or increases its adoption based on the language popularity.

This task for researching and creating a programming language ranking in terms of global usage as reflected in Github project and usage by our enterprise customers. The outcome of this task is report for the code intel team that includes ranking of top 10 languages and reference to data sources.
